As John continues in his letter he says, I'm not telling you anything you haven't heard before. He says, this is an, " old commandment which ye had from the beginning." Later he says "But ye have an unction (anointing) from the Holy One and ye know all things. I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it."
Or in other words because you do have the truth I can talk about these thing because you understand. It does a missionary no good to argue with someone who has not the Spirit with them. Oh, they may be as Saul, out to rid the earth of those no good Christians or in a brawl in some, bar but if they are at a point in their life where they are searching and ready to open up to the Holy Spirit they are golden. It may not be that a light comes down from Heaven and blinds them as happened with Saul, but they will listen and find the truth if and when they are ready.
John also talks about the antichrist. There is only one antichrist and that is Lucifer, but he has many assistance or followers who are among us and John indicates that they also join the church(s), but they don't stay. He says, "they went out from us." Now the problem here is that we might start judging people and stop praying for them. Remember the Lord has said, "I will forgive who I will, but unto you it is given to forgive all men." If that individual is indeed an antichrist the Lord knows, but we are to forgive, them and continue praying for them as it says in 2 Timothy 2: 24 -26. "And the servant of the Lord must not strive but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach patient, in meekness instructing them that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth, and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will."
