His father, Lehi prayed about the manner and received revelation and direction to take his family out of Jerusalem into the wilderness. From there the Lord directed them to build a ship, after the manner he directed, that he would carry his people across the water.

Isaiah had prophesied that the Messiah would come and Nephi quoted that scripture in 2 Nephi 17:14. In 83 BC the prophet Alma prophesied that the child would be born in the land of their forefathers.
