We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; in deed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul ... if there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

there was darkness over all the earth

After the day and night  and day without darkness when the bright star appeared in the sky, the people knew that the Christ child had been born in the land of their fathers. Thirty-three years passed away. Many had become more wicked and some had become more righteous when there came upon the land a great tempest. There were earthquakes, fires, whirlwinds and other great and terrible destruction. Cities sank into the ground, rocks were broken up. For the space of three days there was a thick darkness.
I remember when Mt Saint Helen erupted ash was spread clear to Illinois. My husband happened to be traveling at that time (California, I think ) He brought back a medicine bottle of ash, which apparently covered everything. I often think that must explain at least part of the thick darkness that covered the earth at that time.
Luke also records that as Christ hung on the cross“there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened and the veil of the Temple was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice he said. ‘Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit,’ and having said thus he gave up the ghost.” (Luke 23:44-46)
There is no record of earthquakes, fires tempest, whirlwinds and other great destruction in that part of the earth for they had the body of Christ. The people on this continent had only faith to go on. At this time we do not have a record of what happened on the other continents.
