We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; in deed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul ... if there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Cast your nets on the right side of the boat

Chapter 21 of St John.
John and Simon Peter, Thomas, and others went fishing. Remember that these were fishermen. That’s how they made their living and fed their families. That night they caught nothing. Morning came and the risen Lord stood on the shore. It says that the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. He asked them if they had any meat, and they answered him, “No.” Jesus said, “Cast your nets on the right side of the boat and ye shall find.”
The word ‘right’ here could mean more that opposite of left or it could mean the correct side of the boat. I think it would mean correct as in following Christ directions. But remember they didn’t know it was Jesus, and yet they did it. Why? I think they did it because it felt right. It felt right because of the Holy Spirit. I think that we don’t always have to have a manifestation to know by the spirit that a thing in right or wrong. I’m sure that most of you are not as hard headed as I am, but sometimes the Spirit nearly bowls me over and I’m like, “What? What Lord? What are you trying to tell me?” Wham! Too late I understand. If I had only listened…  More often the Spirit comes softly and we don’t even realize it, and I’m just guessing, but I think that’s what happened here.  Nevertheless, they did it and their nets were full to the brim. It was so heavy that they could not draw it in and yet, their nets did not break.
We are told in another place that if we keep the commandments we shall prosper, and in yet another place we are told that if we endure with patience out trials we will prosper. Specifically we are told in Malachi 3:10 that if we pay our honest tithing there will be meat in mine house. “Prove me herewith saith the Lord of host if I will not open the windows of Heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” That is exactly what the Lord did with the fishermen's nets. And what he will do for us if we will listen, and endure.
I am just a poor old widow woman but I have been so tremendously blessed by the Lords hand for which I am eternally grateful.  I am positive that even greater blessing have escaped me because I was not able to receive them. Because I did not listen and obey, because I complained too much and because I was impatience.
