We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; in deed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul ... if there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

How did Abraham know it really was God who spoke to him

As a Baptist it always bothered me that The Lord appeared to Abraham and told him to sacrifice his son Issac and that Abraham did it. Well, he didn't actually do it because the Lord stopped him at the last moment. But this request does not sound like something the one true God would ask. Abraham of all people knew this because he lived in a wicked and adulterous place when human sacrifice was common. The fact that the one true God did not require human sacrifice set him apart from the false gods, but here he was asking Abraham to place his son on the alter.
So It bothered me until I became Mormon and then I knew the answer.  Abraham knew Gods voice. All through the old testament, the new testament God talked to his prophets and leaders. They knew his voice. They talked with Him and He talked to them
One of the good old Baptist hymns I  love says "I go to the garden alone when the dew is still on the roses, and the voice I hear falling on my ear the Son of God discloses, and he walks with me, and he talks with me, and he tells me I am his own, and the joy we share as we tarry there none other has ever know." The thing that bothered me was,t this was a hymn we sang in church why did no one ever talk about about talking with God?  Yeah, I know. Lots and lots of people talk to God in prayer, but does God ever talk to them? Maybe He does and they just don't hear him. Below in the link to a really neat movie about Abraham and Issac.
