We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; in deed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul ... if there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.”

Isaiah 50: 4  - 5 “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary, he wakeneth morning by morning,  he wakeneth  mine ears to hear as the learned. The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. I gave my back to the smitters and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded; therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.”
Isaiah is speaking here of the Savior as though he had come. We are not so perfect that we know how to speak a word in season to those who are weary. Nevertheless it is a gift to be sought after and to pray for.
By the Holy Spirit we can also understand many things as though we were learned. Many who are close to the Spirit do and have said things that are beyond their learning when the situation called for it. Part of it is that they are not rebellious and when the Spirit whispers they do not reason it away as I sometimes do.
Christ gave his back to the smitters because that was what he needed to do at that time. At a different time he threw the money changers out of the Temple, but that was what was need at that time as he set up His Church. It was necessary at that time for the Temple to be cleansed. There were times when he spoke strong words against his opposes calling them whitened sepulchers full of dead men bones and many other things.
He set his face like a flint and knew the he would not be ashamed. The important thing is that he spoke what needed to be said at the time. He said his Father’s words because he came to do his Father’s work and because he was obedient and listened. We would be so blessed to do the same.
